Medical Mission Adventures is a fully licensed mobile medical clinic. We are registered as first responders with CAL VOAD and Emergency Network of Los Angeles in the event of a natural disaster.

Meet the Team

Executive Director & Medical Director
Evelyn Lo, M.D., FACEP
Dr. Evelyn Wong is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, with over 28 years of experience caring for patients in emergency departments throughout Southern California.
She earned her medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in 1990 and completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Dr. Wong currently serves as the Medical Director of Medical Mission Adventures (MMA), a mobile nonprofit organization delivering accessible medical, dental, mental health, and vision care to underserved communities and disaster-affected areas—including those impacted by the 2025 LA Wildfires where they had set up 2 mobile medical units at the edge of the burn zone for 5 months. She also serves as Assistant Medical Director for Acts of Mercy International, a global humanitarian organization focused on disaster relief.
Her commitment to crisis response has taken her from local emergencies to international relief efforts. After responding to the devastating Maui wildfires in 2023, Dr. Wong intensified her efforts to prepare and lead teams through all phases of disaster care: rescue, relief, and recovery.
Whether in the ER, on the front lines of a disaster, or working with underserved populations, Dr. Wong is passionate about meeting urgent needs and equipping others to do the same.

Assistant Medical Director & Disaster Response Coordinator
Cheryl Jang, M.D.
Dr. Cheryl Jang, MD is a board certified emergency medicine physician and has practiced in Los Angeles and in Glendale, California. She graduated from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in 1985 and was trained in Emergency Medicine at Harbor-UCLA. Dr. Jang is currently affiliated with Adventist Medical Center Glendale, was the first medical director to establish the Glendale Fire Department’s Prehospital Response system, and has been active in Glendale’s Disaster Response programs. She is also the current medical director for Acts of Mercy International, a relief and humanitarian aid organization, and has made several disaster relief missions around the globe.

Director of Operations
Xochitl (Soh-chee) Flores, PA-C
Xochitl is a highly skilled practitioner with over 13 years of experience. Mrs. Flores earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from California State University, Los Angeles and her Masters degree in Physician Assistant from Samuel Merritt University. Prior to joining Medical Mission Adventures, she practiced as a family medicine PA for 12 years in the Community Health setting. She enjoys getting to make personal connections with her patients and looks forward to working with them towards making the best decisions for their health. In her free time, she enjoys nature photography, interior design decorating, missionary work, teaching Sunday school to 4 year olds, spending time with her family, friends and her dog Checkers.

Logistics Director
Fernando Quezada
Fernando Quezada is trained as a Physician Assistant. Having trained at the University of Southern California, he has over 22 years of experience mainly in the fields of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Urgent Care, and Family Medicine. He also received a Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center with further intensive PA studies. Currently he volunteers as Logistics Director for Medical Mission Adventures where he had his start with Louie Rosado between the years of 2010-2013 when he acted as a medical provider. He has joined several disaster relief trips with Acts of Mercy and MMA including trips to Ecuador, Baja California, El Salvador, Tepic Mexico and, most recently, Maui. His passion is in the delivery of compassionate medical care in the name of Jesus Christ.

Director of Nursing
Patty DuPont-Tyler MSN, CPNP, RN
Patty is trained as a pediatric nurse practitioner. She did her undergraduate studies at Biola University and her graduate work at Cal State Long Beach. Presently she is the Head of Health Services at a local school district where she has worked as a school nurse in that community for 22 years. Patty has served with MMA for over a decade as a provider both locally as well as abroad. She was formerly also a board member in the past. Her goal in life is to seek God’s will and obediently follow Him daily. She has always considered herself blessed to be able to serve God through her training in nursing. She is excited to see what Jesus holds in store for those serving Him in the coming years at MMA and AOM Socal.

Consultant Pharmacist and Informatics Specialist
Wendy Fung, PharmD
Wendy has been a pharmacist at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) for over 20 years. During her tenure, in addition to executing her normal duties, she used her healthcare expertise, administrative skill set, and desire to provide solutions to her patient's unmet needs to develop and implement a variety of successful initiatives, such as opening 3 pharmacist run patient care clinics in oncology, heart failure, and asthma. Wendy also managed and tracked all receivables from third party insurances for the Outpatient Pharmacy Department. Over the past 10 years, Wendy served as the outpatient department’s informatics pharmacist and implemented and/or managed over a dozen new technology hardware and software projects such as being the first at the medical center to implement and utilize wireless credit card machines in the hospital. Most recently, Wendy was selected for her technology expertise to serve as UCSD's Epic certified informatics pharmacist, charged with helping to implement a new health information system across 10 pharmacy locations. Outside of work, Wendy continues to pursue her passion for helping people. In addition to serving on Project Compassion's Board of Directors for 12 years, she managed the pharmacy logistics and budgets for the Organization's oversees medical mission trips and personally went on over 2 dozen trips to 20 countries. More recently she has developed a passion for disaster response and works in any capacity medical or non to serve the people in need.

Director of Dentistry
Eddie Kao, D.D.S.
Dr. Eddie Kao is a meticulous general dentist with over 20 years of experience. He graduated from Duke University with a degree in Economics. He then earned a doctor of dental surgery degree from University of Tennessee at Memphis and further trained in general practice residency at Tufts School of dental medicine in Boston, MA. He currently owns a practice in Tustin, CA and enjoys making a difference for people's smile. Dr. Kao is passionate about dental missions because he believes it is important to step away from the normal routines of busy life to focus on serving and giving back to the poor and the unfortunate population. Dr. Kao feels that in the mission, you can really do good, carry out God’s will and make a solid difference for the people. It not only feels great to serve God in this way, but it is very healing for the soul as well. In his spare time, he enjoys basketball, fishing, skiing, classical piano music, spending quality time with family, friends and his dog Sammy.

Director of Optometry
Kent Nozaki, O.D.
Dr. Nozaki opened his office in Lomita in 1984. He graduated from the University of California, Irvine, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology in 1980. He then received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry in 1984, graduating with Honors. He was the recipient of the award for Outstanding Clinician in Binocular Vision. Dr. Nozaki regularly volunteers for Medical Mission Adventures, which helps provide vision care services throughout Southern California for the homeless or for individuals who cannot afford medical insurance. He has also traveled for optometry missions trips to Oaxaca, Mexico, Ensenada, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. If you ask his wife of 38 years, she will say, “I don’t think Kent will ever grow up! He thinks like a kid and he acts like a kid, too!” That explains his passion for Disneyland, which he visits with his wife and two daughters as often as possible. Dr. Nozaki has been teaching Sunday School to elementary school age children for over 30 years. Although patients may be impressed with the extensive technological optometry equipment in our office, they are truly astounded with our office's incredible Disneyland memorabilia!

Logistics Specialists
John & BJ Pace
​John joined MMA as a volunteer in 2017 and quickly grew to love working with all the doctors and staff, learning as much as he could and helping out in every department. His servant heart and attention to detail has made him a vital asset to our operations. When COVID shut down the medical clinics, John helped with the transition to vaccination clinics and got his wife BJ involved as well. No task is too small for this pair and they are happy to do whatever they can to keep things running smoothly.

Director of Mental Health
Tobi Nishikawa, LMFT
Tobi Nishikawa is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California with a focus on Trauma Treatment. Having attained her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1998, her intention has always been to integrate and live out her faith in her clinical practice. Guided by this intention, Tobi has worked as a clinician, clinical supervisor and director in mostly residential settings with marginalized populations such as foster and probation youth with significant child abuse and/or gang trauma, the chronically mentally ill unhoused and refugees who have experienced migration
and/or homeland war/trauma. Over the past several years Tobi has strengthened her clinical practice, attaining certification as an EMDR therapist and volunteering with Acts of Mercy and Medical Mission Adventures, responding to international disasters/crisis to Poland, Berlin or state-side to Maui and to the LA fires.

Direct Relief is the largest charitable medicine program in the United States. It is a humanitarian aid organization, active in all 50 states and more than 80 countries, with a mission to improve the health and lives of people. They help us provide medications locally and internationally.

ENLA
Emergency Network Los Angeles's mission is to enhance the capacity of non-profit organizations, government agencies, and the private sector in managing emergencies as we foster the
"four C's" of emergency management: cooperation, communication, coordination, and collaboration.

Healing California
Healing California partners with other nonprofits and community groups to provide their clinics with free dental, medical and vision services. They contribute to our mission by providing high quality dental equipment enabling us to expand our reach and serve more patients in need.

Maven Project
Maven Project helps our providers connect digitally with experienced specialists for consultations, mentoring and education. As a result, patients at Medical Mission Adventures receive prompt, high quality speciality care.

Mission Flight
Mission Flight provides free medical, dental, and optical services to people with little access to healthcare in underserved or remote areas in California and Mexico. We maintain a fleet of aircraft which are used to fly medical, dental & optical professionals, and their associated supplies, into these areas of acute need. We do this all at no cost because we believe that all people are worth the effort to be restored to the fullness of health.

Mission Increase
Mission Increase provides coaching. They help MMA fulfill our God-given mission and increase our Kingdom impact.

Power of Sight
Power of Sight Foundation is an organization partners with other nonprofits, community groups, and schools to provide free eye care and eyeglasses.
